When Dr. Neil Van Geest’s mother was fighting cancer, he searched for clean, natural nutrition to support her — and couldn’t find any that wasn’t filled with artificial ingredients. So he made one.

That journey became Kiwi Nutrition — a brand founded on love, health, and honesty. Today, we continue that mission by donating 10% of our profit to the NZ Cancer Society, supporting others in their fight for life.

Got Questions? We’ve Got You.

How much protein do I need each day?

The answer to this depends on your age and whether you are training intensely.

If you are simply aiming to have a healthy diet and not training intensely, then your recommended daily intake of protein from all sources is listed on the NZ Nutrition Foundation website.A brief summary is below:

Women aged 19-70: 46g per day
Women over 70: 57g per day
Breastfeeding women: 67g per day
Pregnant women: 60g per day
Teenage boys: 14-18 65g per day
Teenage girls: 14-18 45g per day
Men aged 19-70: 64g per day
Men over 70: 81g per day

If you are aiming to gain muscle or are an active athlete engaging in intense exercise, your daily protein requirements will be higher than those outlined above. The reason for this is that when muscles are used intensely, the muscle protein myoglobin breaks down and needs to be repaired. This rebuilding process leads to growth of the muscle fibres and therefor requires an intake of protein over and above the level we need to simply get by. In a 2017 article published in The Journal of Nutrition, it was found that the daily protein requirements of young male bodybuilders was between 1.2 to 2.2 grams per kilogram of body weight.

Which protein powder is right for me?

This is a tricky question and really depends on the person, their goals and their budget.

Our whey protein powder is a great, budget friendly all rounder. It is ideal for someone wanting to generally boost their protein intake, or someone training for a sport or in the gym. It has a high level of protein and low carbs and fat.

People that are following a plant based or vegan diets will find that our pea protein powders suit them well.

Whey protein isolate is great for people wishing to add protein to their diet but wanting to minimise their fat and carbohydrate intake. It is great for high performance athletes, body builders, cyclists and triathletes. It is also great for people with a sensitivity to lactose, as it has most of the lactose removed. It is also recommended by nutritionists for people undergoing and recovering from bariatric surgery.

What is the difference between whey protein powder and whey protein isolate?

Whey is produced when manufacturing cheese - the curds separate from the whey and are dried to make cheese. Whey is a liquid, that is then dried to form whey protein concentrate. This contains 80% protein.

Whey protein isolate is produced when the whey protein concentrate undergoes a another stage of filtration to remove as much of the fat and carbohydrates as possible. This results in a protein powder which contains 93% protein and very low amounts of carbohydrates and fat. This gives it a less creamy and thinner consistency.

How do I know which protein powder is best for my goals and needs?

Whey Protein
The perfect all rounder! Great value and ideal for anyone wanting to add protein to their diet and isn’t too worried about a very small amount of carbs and fat.

Whey Protein Isolate
This is for those wishing to maximise their protein intake while minimising carbs and fat. Perfect for competitive sports people, multisport athletes, and those on a keto diet or recovering from diet or recovering from bariatric surgery.

Pea Protein
The ideal vegan-friendly protein powder for supporting an active lifestyle and good nutrition. Made from European golden peas and is 100% plant based and natural. It contains all nine essential amino acids needed by your body.

Are your protein powders vegan?

Our Pea Protein is our only vegan product. However, our Whey Protein and Whey Protein Isolate are suitable for vegetarians.

How many servings does one bag of protein contain?

Our 1kg bags contain 33 servings.

How do I take the protein powders?

For smoothies and shakes, add 2 heaped dessert spoons of protein powder to around 150-250 ml of cold water or milk of your choice. You can also use protein powder in baking, porridge, chia pudding and more. Check out our great recipe ideas here

Are your protein powders safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding?

All of our protein powders are 100% natural and free from nasty artificial additives that may be harmful to a developing baby, so are a great way for supporting your nutrition during this important time. However, they are not meal replacement shakes so need to be used in conjunction with a balanced diet so that you consume essential minerals and vitamins.

If you have any medical issues, we recommend discussing these with your regular doctor.

Are your products gluten free?

Yes, all our products are free from gluten.

Where are your products made?

All our products are proudly made in New Zealand and are 100% natural.

How long does shipping take and where do you ship to?

We offer free shipping New Zealand wide for any order over $60
